Basic Baseball Rules
What are the basic rules of baseball? They are not very many. The basic baseball rules listed below give you a fair idea of what the game requires in the way of obedience to authority from its players:
Batting
Batting has to be in the form of a player taking up a baseball bat and swinging it three times at a baseball pitched from the mound in front of him. If he misses all three times he is out. If he hits a home run he’s made it. Some players only get to 1st, 2nd or 3rd base. Then as each individual comes to bat the players collect on various successive bases. It’s an interesting scenario to watch and participate in.
Pitching
A pitcher comes up to the pitcher’s mound and grabs hold of a ball. He then goes on to throw 3 curveballs at the batter. The balls must have a twist in them and be speedy. The baseball has to be held with the index and middle fingers on top and the thumb at the bottom.
Catching
We are all familiar with that strange novel “The Catcher in the Rye” …well, in baseball you have to have more sense than get misled by hallucinations and delusions. Catching is quite important so much so that catchers often spend hours practicing catching the ball in their free time to get a hang of the game. They often have baseball mitts to ease the grip on the target.
The Diamond
A baseball field is divided into 4 bases with the 4th being the one players (batters) start from. There is a pitcher’s mound further on. There is an in-field and an out-field as well as a fair and a foul area. The rules beyond this can get a little complex.
In baseball basic rules are meant to make the game smoothly continue in its trajectory. To flow and go as perfectly as possible is the main goal of each and every rule. One thing to consider is that it took many years to formulate the rules. They are not the result of accident or mischance. Such is just not the case as many fools consider in their foolhardiness. It is by a gradual changing process that did away with the unnecessary elements and the interferences that baseball rules made their entry into today’s modern dimension.
Several times we hear some slowpoke complain about the rules saying that they are meant for fools. Or he might complain that they were meant to be broken. Well he is the biggest fool and it is his spirit of unsportsmanlike behavior that must be broken. Rules must be followed and this counts doubly so for the basic rules. Suppose we made a rule that the sport must not be played. That will probably seem nonsensical to many if it is one day made. But remember that everything exists for a reason. It is probably harmful to play from that stage onwards due to which this draconian rule was made (this is just make-belief to show you how rules are very important).
So follow basic baseball rules and win the game.
